Thought on the Project
For me as an illustrator it was an interesting challenge to depict silence, to find the visual representation of it. I decided that the book should be in black and white. I came up with this decision reflecting on the fact that a monochromatic palette can be very rich in hues. I found that the possible richness of the monochromatic palette is a good analogy for the richness of silence that you can discover if you listen carefully.
To visually convey the diversity of the Silence’s sound world I combined several techniques including stencil, stamping, digital collage and freehand drawing. All these techniques allow creating miscellaneous textures with a very tactile feel and this enriches visual experience and helps add vivid characteristics to the depicted sounds.
